This is not a reflection of the intelligence of the child. Many of these children learn differently and really need a different way to learn. There are many children who are bright, but also have a very challenging time learning the basic skills of reading. Many times our childis still having a hard time. We have all tried some of the well know teaching programs like:Project Read, Language, Fast ForWord and while some of us have had some glimmers of success. Whether you are wondering if your child has a learning disability or simply looking for ideas to help, be patient. Did you know that 67% of all Grade 4 students cannot read at a proficient level! Of that 67%, 33% read at just the BASIC level, And 34% CANNOT even achieve reading abilities of the lowest basic level! There are many reasons a child may have trouble reading. So, at what age can you start teaching a child to read? When they're babies? At 2 years old, 3, 4, or 5 years old, or wait until they're in school? According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress If you delay your child's reading skill development until he or she enters school, you are putting your child at risk.
The education system does not want you to know this because it would cause parents to insist on a more comprehensive education structure. NOT teaching Reading to your child early before they even reach grade 4 leads to: => A 66% chance they'll drop out of high school => Reduced confidence for their entire life => 55% higher risk they'll commit a felony as an adult.
Without Reading what chance would person have in becoming proficient in Math, Writing or any of the Sciences? No chance. Reading is the most important skill your child desperately needs.
